Degrees and Certifications:
Ms. Harris has over 20 years of dance training and 6 years of teaching experience. Her training includes ballet, modern, jazz, contemporary, musical theater, hip hop, and ballroom dance. She is a native of Sarasota, Fl and grew up dancing competively for FLEX Dance Studios around the Tampa Bay area, at competitions and conventions such as Co. Dance, Tremaine, New York City Dance Alliance, Showstoppers, and JUMP. She also performed locally with Sarasota Ballet and the West Coast Civic Ballet Company under the direction of Deborah Vinton. Miss Harris is also a member of the Florida Dance Assocation and studied Hip Hop , Modern, and Jazz intensively under the direction of Jennifer Archibald at both the New World School of the Arts in Miami, Fl and Universtiy of South Florida in Tampa.
Upon studying on scholarship at Florida State University, where she obtained a Bachelors of Science in Psychology, with a minor in Dance, she began her teaching and choreorgraphy experience by leading FSU's student run dance company, Level Dance Co. During her time at Florida State University, her choreography was featured in parades, football and baseketball events, talent shows, multicultural step team performances, and Level Dance Co.'s Spring Showcases. She has had the opportunity to take master classes from well known dancers and choreographers such as: Amanda Tae, Larry Albright, Tony Bellissimo, Stacey Tookey, Travis Wall, Mandy Moore and Mia Michaels. She has performed professionally in Florida, Atlanta, and Phildelphia.
Since graduating from FSU, she has relocated to back to her hometown of Sarasota to ignite her career in teaching. She is an established choreographer and has been on staff at several competitive dance studios in the Sarasota/Bradenton area in addition to teaching master classes. Choreography is where her passion lies, and beyond being an awarded artist, what she enjoys the most is motivating her students to be the best performers they can be.
She has training in both Latin & Smooth styles of Ballroom dance, and is certified through the Bronze Level of Curriculum in Fred Astaire Ballroom Franchise systems, covering Salsa, Rumba, Cha Cha, Swing, Tango, Waltz, Fox Trot and Bolero. She was awarded 1st place overall in her age group for Cha Cha, Rumba, and Salsa styles, and 2nd place overall in her age group for Tango, Fox Trot, Waltz, and Swing styles at Fred Astaire's Regional Ballroom Competition at the Ritz Carlton of Sarasota in the summer of 2014.
Additionally, she remains very involved in the Dance Community of Sarasota, volunteering with "Dance for PD," Dance for Parkinson's Disease patients, under the direction of Lynn Hocker, as well as local performances with companies such as Tree Fort Theater Productions and Sarasota Players.
