Middle School InformationManatee School For the Arts Middle School offers grades six (6), seven (7), and eight (8). For the 2020-2021 school year, MSA expects to enroll approximately 1000 students. Class sizes are projected between twenty (20) and twenty five (25) students per class. MSA uses a modified block schedule with four (4) ninety (90) minute periods of instruction per day. There are at least one hundred eighty (180) days of instruction. MSA follows the calendar used by other public schools in Manatee County.
Middle School students are engaged in many academic and arts classes, and participate in the state assessments in reading, writing, mathematics, and science and End of Course assessments for those students taking high school courses. Our students continually perform at a high level, with staff dedicated to helping students perform at their best always.
Our Middle School uses the teaming concept for horizontal alignment as well as departments for vertical alignment in grades 6-12.
Students have an opportunity to engage at high levels with teachers dedicated in infusing the arts into all classes and educating students in their best learning style. The focus of the academic program is on achieving excellence for ALL!!
Working in unison, all teachers plan activities that support the curriculum across the grades. Starting in 7th grade, students may choose from a variety of electives, including music, dance, visual art, digital art and theatre. Students are given may avenues to express themselves through their work at MSA.
Additional experiences are provided through academic field trips and social experiences such as dances, field trips, and grade-level activities. Students may participate in a variety of extra-curricular activities, including the National Junior Honor Society, a variety of clubs, and they may audition to be a part of theatre productions here at school.
