In a phrase: perform, lead, and serve.
"A Tri-M Music Honor Society chapter gives you countless opportunities to perform, lead, and serve the community. Not only will you learn accountability, responsibility, and other character-building social skills by performing music and running the chapter, but you’ll be able to put together an impressive record of achievements for college applications." ~www.musichonors.com/students/
I always joyfully considered myself a 'band geek' in high school (and still do!) but I wish we'd had a Tri-M chapter. As MSA's chapter advisor, I have enjoyed overseeing the opportunites presented to young artists who are excited to be involved in music in AND out of the classroom. Tri-M could be described as the cheerleaders for our music department! Everything from developing ideas on how to promote concerts and events, to attending the massive FMEA event (FL Music Education Association) in Tampa, to community service and local performances - Tri-M members can go as far as their imagination takes them. So no matter what class you are rocking - band, choir, orchestra, guitar or piano - there's a place for you in Tri-M!
